Butler County was established in 1803. Its county seat, Hamilton, grew around Fort Hamilton, built in 1791. The Butler County Historical Society dates its permanent organization to January 12, 1934. It preserves local collections and operates the Benninghofen House Museum.
Hamilton County was established in 1790. Cincinnati’s settlement began in 1788 as Losantiville; the name became Cincinnati in 1790. The Cincinnati History Library and Archives at Cincinnati Museum Center holds the historical society’s collections and resources for Hamilton County, Ohio.
Warren County was established in 1803, with Lebanon as its county seat. Founded in 1940, the Warren County Historical Society preserves the area’s stories, art and material culture at Harmon Museum, with additional historic properties and educational programs in Lebanon.
